On February 9, 2025, I had the honor of serving as the featured speaker at the annual Lincoln Day event at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. The ceremony paid tribute to Abraham Lincoln and his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, whose quiet strength and sacrifices shaped one of our nation’s greatest leaders.

The event included a moving presentation of the colors by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, special music, and a solemn pilgrimage to Nancy Hanks Lincoln’s gravesite for a wreath-laying ceremony. My remarks focused on Nancy’s enduring influence and the values she instilled in her son—compassion, resilience, and integrity.
